OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :

On 02/19/2026, Woodbridge police attempted to stop a Nissan Maxima for speeding on Route 1 south near Gill Lane just before midnight. The driver did not stop and continued driving at high speed. Police chased the vehicle until the Nissan crashed into another vehicle. Karla M. Gamero, 17, a passenger in the Nissan and an Edison High School student, died from crash injuries. A dog inside the Nissan also died. Several people in the other vehicle were hospitalized with serious injuries. The New Jersey Attorney General’s Office is reviewing the pursuit because the crash occurred during a police chase.
