OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY : On 02/19/2026 at approximately 10:00 a.m., Boulder City Police received a 911 report that a vehicle had crashed through a secured gate at a Los Angeles Department of Water and Power electrical substation outside Boulder City. Boulder City Police and Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department officers responded and secured the perimeter. LVMPD counterterrorism units and the Federal Bureau of Investigation joined the response.

Officers located a rented Nissan Sentra inside the restricted facility grounds. Police found 23-year-old Dawson Noah Maloney inside the vehicle with a fatal self-inflicted gunshot wound. Authorities reported Maloney was wearing body armor and had multiple firearms in the vehicle, including shotguns and an AR-style pistol, along with loaded magazines. Investigators also recovered devices described as flamethrowers containing thermite material, in addition to tools including a crowbar and hatchet.

Law enforcement stated Maloney had traveled from New York and had previously been reported missing. Authorities said he sent messages to family members referencing an act that would place him in the news. Officers reported no exchange of gunfire with law enforcement. No officers or members of the public were injured. The substation did not suffer significant structural damage and no power outages were reported.

The FBI is leading aspects of the terrorism investigation in coordination with LVMPD and Boulder City Police.
