OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY : On 02/19/2026, Grandview Plaza Police attempted a traffic stop near a Cracker Barrel in Junction City around 7:30 p.m. The driver did not stop and police escalated a vehicle pursuit. Junction City Police and the Geary County Sheriff’s Office joined the chase. Officers deployed tire deflation devices, and the vehicle stopped near Rucker Road and Fort Avenue. The driver exited and ran into a wooded area. Officers pursued on foot and attempted to deploy a Taser. During the confrontation, police stated the man produced a handgun and shot himself. He died at the location.
