On 02/22/2026, Houston police responded to reports that a man fired a rifle into a hotel room near Interstate 69 and the Sam Houston Tollway. Officers confronted the man outside a doorway while he was holding a rifle. Police ordered him to drop the weapon and then opened fire and struck him. He died from gunshot wounds. A woman inside the hotel sustained a graze wound and received medical treatment.
