On 02/22/2026, Huntsville police responded to a domestic call at a home on Avalon Lake Drive in Huntsville. Officers encountered a situation involving an adult female and three children inside the residence and heard a gunshot from within the home. Officers established a command post and began negotiations during a standoff that lasted nearly four hours. The three children exited the home safely without physical injury. After entering the house, officers located an adult woman who had died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Police said there was no ongoing threat once the situation ended.
