On 02/23/2026, Spokane Valley police responded to reports of a suicidal individual in mental health crisis inside a residence near North Pines Road and East 16th Avenue. Officers established a perimeter and attempted communication for several hours. Police reported that the man exited onto a balcony holding a firearm before returning inside. Law enforcement continued negotiation efforts during the standoff. The man later died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound inside the residence while officers remained outside.
