OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :

On 02/23/2026, a man recently released from the Hennepin County Jail went to a residence on Irving Avenue North in north Minneapolis and shot and killed two relatives, a 14-year-old boy and a 23-year-old man, believed to be his cousins, in front of other family members inside the home. Multiple children and a grandmother were present inside the residence at the time; they were not physically harmed during the shooting. Police later located the suspect in Brooklyn Center near the intersection of Xerxes Avenue North and 56th Avenue North after reports that he was armed and “waving a gun” outside of retail establishments. Officers confronted the armed man and an exchange of gunfire occurred. The man was struck by gunfire and transported to a hospital, where he later died from his injuries.
