OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :

On 02/23/2026, Brooklyn Center Police Department officers responded to reports of a man waving a handgun in a business parking lot on the 5600 block of Brooklyn Boulevard. Officers located Eddie Duncan armed with a handgun. According to the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension, Duncan fired toward officers, striking a police squad car. Officers Christian Lausen, Francisco Martinez, and Wahid Gul returned fire and struck Duncan. He ran a short distance before collapsing. Officers rendered aid and Duncan was taken to a local hospital, where he died from his injuries. No officers were injured in the incident. The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension is investigating the use of force and body-worn camera footage and in-car video captured portions of the encounter. The BCA will present its findings to the Hennepin County Attorney’s Office for review.
