On 02/25/2026, police officers in Bala Cynwyd observed Francis Connell Collier, a former Morton Borough police officer wanted on child rape and related charges, as he was getting into his vehicle near Old Lancaster Road and Edge Hill Road. Officers approached him. Authorities say Collier fired a weapon at the officers. Police returned fire and fatally wounded Collier. Collier had resigned from the Morton Borough Police Department in December 2025 after being placed on administrative leave during a criminal investigation into allegations of sexual abuse involving minors dating back more than 20 years. The Montgomery County District Attorney’s Office is handling the investigation of the shootout with police.
