OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :

On 02/16/2026, Madera County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to reports of individuals breaking into vehicles. Deputies located a vehicle connected to the report and attempted a stop. The driver did not stop and deputies escalated a chase. During the pursuit, the vehicle crashed near Avenue 17 and Road 29. The driver was pronounced dead at the scene. Three passengers were also killed. One additional passenger was transported in critical condition.
