OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :
On 02/26/2026, deputies with the Lauderdale County Sheriff’s Office were investigating a stolen vehicle and active warrants in the Anderson community of Lauderdale County, Alabama. Deputies located the vehicle driven by 38-year-old Ronald Craig of Lawrenceburg, Tennessee. When deputies attempted to stop the vehicle, Craig continued driving and police chased the vehicle through the area. Investigators said Craig attempted to run over deputies during the encounter and deputies fired their weapons before the pursuit continued. The chase ended after Craig crashed the vehicle along Highway 207 and ran from the scene on foot. Deputies chased him through a wooded area where he jumped into a large pond while attempting to escape. Craig did not resurface. Authorities searched the pond and a dive team later recovered his body. Craig was transported to the Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences for an autopsy. The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency State Bureau of Investigation opened an investigation because deputies discharged their weapons during the incident.
