On 02/27/2026, Florida Highway Patrol troopers and Broward Sheriff’s Office deputies pursued a vehicle reported stolen from Deerfield Beach onto the southbound Florida Turnpike near Sunrise Boulevard in Plantation. Police attempted a traffic stop on the white Ford F-250. The driver continued driving, struck a BSO cruiser and a Coconut Creek Police cruiser, and a precision immobilization technique was used to turn the pickup into the wall near mile marker 58. A black Nissan sedan was pinioned against the wall in the resulting crash. The driver of that Nissan died from injuries sustained in the crash. The bystander driver, Bonnie Bouffard, 70. Bouffard died from injuries sustained in the crash. Friends and coworkers said Bouffard was a breast cancer survivor who worked in medical billing and was known for her reliability and kindness.
