On 03/03/2026, police responded to a domestic violence incident with reported gunfire near the intersection of 5th Avenue Northwest and Milwaukee Boulevard North in Algona, Washington. Officers from the Algona, Pacific, and Auburn police departments arrived around 9:00 a.m. and encountered a man in his 30s holding a rifle. Police said two people at the scene, an 18-year-old woman and a 14-year-old boy, had already been shot before officers arrived. Officers confronted the man outside the residence and opened fire, killing him at the scene. The two victims were transported to area hospitals with injuries described as not life-threatening; the woman was later released while the teenager remained under treatment. Authorities indicated the victims and the man appeared to be members of the same family. Nearby Alpac Elementary School and city buildings were briefly placed on precautionary lockdown while police secured the area. The Valley Independent Investigative Team, a regional multi-agency unit that handles officer-involved shootings, took control of the investigation and the officer involved was placed on administrative leave as required by policy. The identity of the man killed had not yet been publicly released at the time of initial reporting.
