OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :

On 03/01/2026, Wichita police attempted to stop a vehicle near Kellogg Avenue in Wichita, Kansas. The driver did not stop and police chased the vehicle along the Kellogg corridor. During the pursuit, police and the vehicle exchanged gunfire. Investigators said the driver continued driving before losing control of the vehicle and crashing along the roadway. The driver, identified only as a 17-year-old male, died from injuries sustained in the crash. Police said the teenager was the only occupant in the vehicle. The Kansas Bureau of Investigation and the Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Office are assisting with the investigation because officers discharged their weapons during the incident. Authorities have not released the teenager’s name because he is a juvenile.
