OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :

On 03/01/2026, Chandler police attempted a traffic stop around 3:00 a.m. on a suspected impaired driver traveling along Country Club Road in the East Valley. According to investigators, the driver accelerated away instead of stopping. Police chased the vehicle northbound for several miles, during which the car passed another officer at speeds exceeding 100 mph and continued for roughly five to six miles. The vehicle later crashed near the intersection of Country Club Road and Baseline Road in Mesa and caught fire. Emergency responders arrived to find the car engulfed in flames with the driver trapped inside. The driver was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities later identified him as 32-year-old Jesus Alejandro Alcantar Vazquez of Tempe. The Arizona Department of Public Safety is handling the investigation into the crash.
