OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :

On 03/03/2026, New Castle County police responded around 3:50 p.m. to a report of gunfire inside a home on the unit block of Ramsey Road in Wilmington. A caller reported hearing multiple gunshots and seeing Daniel Shacklett, an acquaintance, with a handgun before fleeing and calling 911. Officers arrived and reported hearing additional gunfire from inside the residence while establishing a perimeter and activating the crisis management group, including SWAT and negotiators. A roughly four-hour standoff followed as officers attempted communication by phone, text, and loudspeaker. Shortly before 8:00 p.m., Shacklett exited the home carrying a shovel and swung it toward officers. Officers deployed less-lethal measures, but he went back inside, returned holding knives, and moved toward officers. Several officers then fired their weapons, striking him. Shacklett died at the location. Authorities identified him on March 5 and turned his body over to the Delaware Division of Forensic Science.
