OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :

On 03/02/2026, Cathedral City police responded around 7:00 p.m. to a reported home invasion and stabbing at a residence on the 50 block of Via Minorca in the Date Palm Country Club community. Officers located a 55-year-old man outside the home after he forced entry and stabbed a resident, causing a torso injury. During the encounter, authorities said the man was holding a weapon and an officer opened fire, striking him. Both the injured resident and the man were taken to a hospital, where the man died; the stabbing victim survived. Authorities have not publicly released his name. The Riverside County Sheriff’s Force Investigation Detail is investigating the shooting.
