On 02/23/2026, Decatur police responded to a welfare check in the 3500 block of E. Corman Street after reports that 39-year-old Ty Jacob Doolen was in distress. Officers said they believed he needed medical care and attempted to take him into non-arrest custody. According to police, he refused and the situation escalated. Officers used force to restrain him and placed him in custody. Shortly afterward, Doolen showed signs of respiratory distress. He was transported to a hospital, where he died soon after. The Illinois State Police are investigating the death.
