On 03/07/2026, Binghamton police encountered a 37-year-old man near West State Street and Chenango Street after he stood in the roadway blocking a Broome County Transit bus, climbed onto its front, and behaved erratically toward riders and officers. Police said officers de-escalated and detained him after he resisted arrest, then took him to Binghamton General Hospital for evaluation, where he stayed overnight and was discharged the next day. Afterward, police transported him to headquarters; while in the parking area he experienced a medical emergency. Officers called EMS and performed aid including chest compressions and Narcan before EMS transported him to UHS Wilson Medical Center, where he died. The New York State Attorney General’s Office of Special Investigations is conducting the death investigation and officers involved were placed on modified duty.
