On 03/12/2026, Hot Springs police attempted to stop a stolen vehicle near Cleveland and White streets. Police said the driver did not stop and continued driving, and officers chased him through the city. During the pursuit, the fleeing vehicle collided with another vehicle at Hobson Avenue and Fifth Street, killing Patricia Minga, 73, of Jonesboro, and another woman, Kathryn White, 78, of Hot Springs. Two other people were injured. Police said the driver fled on foot after the crash but officers captured him shortly afterward near Fourth Street and South Avenue. Authorities identified him as Lee Amos Smith, 50, of Hot Springs, and said he faces multiple charges including manslaughter and fleeing.
