OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :
On 03/11/2026, Rochester police responded around 9:30 p.m. to an apartment on the 1900 block of Ashland Drive NW for a domestic-related call involving a man reported to be in a mental health crisis. Officers responded with a Crisis Response Team social worker and determined the man posed a threat to himself and others and placed him on a 72-hour emergency hold. During efforts to take him into custody, a struggle occurred and police said the man grabbed an officer’s firearm. Another officer opened fire and killed him. Officers and paramedics provided medical aid and transported him to Mayo Clinic Hospital St. Marys Campus, where he was pronounced dead. The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension is conducting an independent investigation.
