On 03/11/2026, Boston police responded to a reported carjacking near Tremont Street and located the vehicle at 10 Linwood Street. Officers approached the vehicle while the man remained in the driver’s seat. Police said he attempted to drive away and struck a cruiser. Officer Nicholas O’Malley opened fire into the vehicle, striking him multiple times. He was transported to a hospital where he died.
Prosecutors later charged O’Malley with manslaughter, stating that physical evidence, witness statements, and body camera footage contradict the claim that officers were in immediate danger. Investigators determined there was probable cause that the use of deadly force was not justified.
