OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :

On 03/11/2026, Columbia County deputies responded to a residence on Klamer Road in the Town of West Point while investigating a possible hit-and-run. Deputies attempted to contact a 37-year-old man believed connected to the investigation and spoke with him for about 45 minutes, including by phone when he told them he had a gun. Authorities said the man later exited the residence and walked toward deputies with a firearm pointed at them and did not comply with commands. Four deputies opened fire, striking him. Deputies provided first aid and he was transported for medical care, where he was pronounced dead. Deputies wore body cameras and were placed on administrative leave. The Sauk County Sheriff’s Office is leading the investigation.
