OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :

On 03/15/2026, an Elizabethtown officer observed a Ford F-150 driving west on West High Street without headlights or taillights and moving erratically with smoke coming from the vehicle. The officer activated emergency lights and a siren to initiate a traffic stop. The truck continued about two miles before pulling onto the berm in the 700 block of West Bainbridge Street. Before officers approached, David Bain shot himself. Officers removed him from the vehicle and EMS responded. He was pronounced dead at 3:22 a.m. An autopsy determined he died from a gunshot wound to the head and ruled the death a suicide.
