On 03/16/2026, San Bernardino County deputies located a vehicle on Highway 38 near Bryant Street linked to a domestic violence incident earlier that day in Calimesa. Deputies attempted a traffic stop, but the driver did not stop and led deputies on an approximately eight-mile pursuit through Yucaipa toward Mentone. After pulling onto the shoulder, deputies ordered him out using a public address system. When he did not respond, deputies deployed a drone and found him unresponsive inside the vehicle with a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Paramedics pronounced Jovan Jones dead.
