On 03/17/2026, Jacksonville police responded to a reported armed robbery at a Gate gas station on Bowden Road near Interstate 95. A man entered the store, displayed a handgun, and ordered employees to leave before telling them to call police. When officers arrived, he repeatedly said he would come out shooting and then exited the store with a gun raised, walking toward officers. Officer H. Cascante fired multiple rounds, killing him. Police said the man did not fire his weapon and indicated the incident appeared to be a suicide by police.
