On 03/17/2026, Texas City police attempted to stop a driver following a disturbance call at a business in Bacliff. The driver continued driving and officers initiated a pursuit. Police chased the vehicle north on State Highway 146. During the chase, the driver crashed into an SUV, causing it to roll over, and then collided with an industrial truck pulling a trailer, which caught fire. The driver died from injuries caused by the crash. Three people in the other vehicles were injured and transported to hospitals.
