On 03/17/2026, Jasper police responded to a report of shots fired at a Veterans Affairs clinic on East Church Street. Officers arrived and confronted a man outside the clinic. The man had fired shots, and a clinic employee was struck and airlifted to a hospital. Officers then opened fire and killed the man outside the building. Authorities have not released his identity. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation and federal authorities are assisting with the investigation.
