On 03/16/2026, Hampden Township police attempted a traffic stop on a vehicle along Interstate 81. The driver continued driving and police initiated a pursuit. Before officers could approach the vehicle after it came to a stop, the driver shot himself with a handgun. He died from the self-inflicted gunshot. Authorities have not released his name.
