On 03/20/2026, Rochester Police Department officers responded to reports of gunfire in the 700 block of Lake Avenue. Shatique Cato, 34, fired multiple rounds and struck a police officer, causing injuries. Officers established a response perimeter as the situation escalated. During the encounter, Cato shot himself. He was pronounced dead. The injured officer survived and received medical treatment.
