On 03/22/2026, Broward Sheriff’s deputies identified a stolen van being driven recklessly in West Park and attempted a traffic stop. The driver continued driving and police escalated a multi-agency pursuit. During the pursuit, the driver struck a patrol vehicle and continued at high speed through multiple roadways. The chase ended when the driver crashed through a gate at a marina on West State Road 84 and drove into a canal. The driver was pulled from the water, and deputies learned a woman was still inside the submerged van. Divers entered the water and removed her after a delay. She was transported to a hospital where she died. Authorities identified the driver as Michael Malik Harvey and later charged him with felony murder and related offenses.
