On 03/23/2026, Conroe police responded to a report of a welfare check at a Bank of America ATM on North Frazier Street and received information that a Brinks security guard had been shot and money boxes were taken. Police used tracking data from the stolen money boxes to locate a grey Dodge pickup on Interstate 45. Officers coordinated with multiple agencies and conducted a felony traffic stop. Before officers approached the vehicle, the driver shot himself in the head inside the pickup. Officers secured the vehicle and transported him to a hospital, where he died. The injured security guard, identified as 59 year old Quang Truong, was transported in critical condition.
