OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :

On 03/23/2026, Palm Bay police responded to reports of gunfire near Serenade Street and Jupiter Boulevard. Officers located a 54 year old woman inside a residence and established a perimeter. Police reported that the woman fired shots from inside the home and at one point toward responding officers. Officers did not immediately return fire and requested SWAT and crisis negotiators. During an hours long standoff, negotiators made contact with the woman, but she continued firing shots toward SWAT personnel. Later in the evening, the woman fired again and officers returned fire. Officers entered the home and found her dead from a gunshot wound. Authorities have not yet determined whether she was struck by police gunfire or died from a self inflicted gunshot wound. The Florida Department of Law Enforcement is investigating the shooting.
