On 03/23/2026, Palm Bay police responded to reports of gunfire near Jupiter Boulevard and Serenade Street. Police established a perimeter around a residence and identified a woman inside the home. Police reported that the woman fired multiple rounds from inside the residence and toward officers. SWAT and crisis negotiation teams responded and remained on site for several hours while attempting to resolve the situation. During the standoff, additional shots were fired from inside the home. Police returned fire during the encounter. After deploying gas and entering the residence, officers found Kamla Grimmer, 53, dead inside the home. Authorities have stated it remains under investigation whether she died from police gunfire or self-inflicted injuries. The Florida Department of Law Enforcement is conducting an independent investigation.
