On 03/27/2026, officers with the Plainville Police Department responded after a woman reported that her brother had called and said he had killed multiple people and intended to kill himself. Officers arrived at a residence on Milford Street and established contact with Patrick J. King, who remained inside the home. Officers initiated a standoff and brought in a regional SWAT team. Officers used a drone and communicated with King during negotiations that lasted approximately two hours. Officers then deployed pepper gas into the home to force him to surrender. During this police intervention, King shot himself. Officers entered the residence and King was transported to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Officers located three additional individuals inside the home who had been shot and killed prior to police arrival.
