On 03/26/2026, officers with the Phoenix Police Department located Steven Charles Mitten during an investigation and moved to take him into custody. Detectives identified his vehicle and used a Grappler device to stop him on a roadway. Officers approached and gave commands during the attempted arrest. During this police intervention, Mitten shot himself. He was transported to a hospital, where he later died.
