OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :

On 03/31/2026, deputies with the Napa County Sheriff’s Office attempted a traffic stop on Highway 12 near Highway 29. The driver did not stop. Deputies escalated a chase. Minutes later, the vehicle crashed near the visitor parking lot at Travis Air Force Base and caught fire. Deputies attempted to extinguish the fire but were unable to do so. Fire personnel arrived and pronounced both occupants of the vehicle dead. The reason for the initial stop and the identities of those who died have not been released.
