OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :

On 04/01/2026, Shasta County Sheriff’s deputies attempted a traffic stop on a vehicle with expired registration as it entered northbound Interstate 5 from Pine Grove Avenue. The driver did not stop, and deputies chased the vehicle off the freeway toward Wonderland Boulevard and Old Oregon Trail. The driver ran a stop sign and continued driving before crashing into mailboxes and a dirt embankment near Grande Vista Lane. Deputies removed him from the vehicle and transported him to a hospital, where he died. Authorities later stated he had multiple outstanding warrants with a combined bail of about $1 million. The California Highway Patrol is handling the investigation.
