On 04/04/2026, police responded to a 911 call on Hemenway Street reporting that multiple individuals with a gun were trying to harm the caller. Police located the caller inside an apartment and began communicating with him through the doorway. Officers requested Boston EMS and a clinician after determining the individual was experiencing a mental health crisis.
After an extended interaction, police asked the man to exit the apartment. When the door opened, police said the man struck an EMS clinician and an officer and stabbed the officer with what authorities described as a sword. Officers then used a taser and opened fire, killing him.
Multiple officers were injured during the encounter.
