On 04/04/2026, officers with a metro task force in Colorado Springs approached a vehicle in the 1200 block of North Academy Boulevard during proactive enforcement. The male driver attempted to flee, but the vehicle became stuck. Officers gave repeated commands for him to exit. A woman exited the vehicle, but the driver remained inside. Police stated the man fired at least one shot toward officers. Three officers then opened fire, striking him. He was transported to a hospital, where he died from his injuries.
