An officer attempted to stop Landon Smith for reckless driving on a dirt bike. Smith did not stop. Police escalated a pursuit. Smith drove at high speed, including traveling into oncoming traffic, before running a red light at Canal Boulevard and City Park Avenue. He crashed into a turning pickup truck. Smith was ejected from the dirt bike and transported to a hospital, where he died. Police reported they lost sight of him shortly before the crash.
