OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :

On 04/08/2026, Riverside County Sheriff’s Department deputies identified a driver wanted for grand theft and attempted a traffic stop near Limonite Avenue and Pats Ranch Road. The driver did not stop and deputies chased the vehicle through city streets and onto Interstate 10 and Interstate 15 for nearly an hour. Deputies deployed spike strips and attempted to use a grappler device, which did not attach and caused the driver to lose control and crash into a concrete wall on Antigua Drive. Deputies surrounded the vehicle and initiated a standoff, using armored vehicles, a drone, tear gas, and a crisis negotiation team. After communication stopped, deputies breached the vehicle and found the driver with a self-inflicted gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead.
