OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :
On 04/09/2026, Paris Police Department officers responded to a report of a man threatening a person with a knife in a parking lot. Officers located the man and conducted a traffic stop with assistance from a Texas Department of Public Safety trooper. During the encounter, the man refused commands and produced a knife, injuring the trooper. A Paris Police officer fired, striking him. Officers transported the man to a hospital where he was pronounced dead. The injured trooper received treatment and was later released. The Texas Rangers are investigating the shooting.
