On 04/09/2026, a Frederick County Sheriff's Office deputy attempted to stop a vehicle traveling at high speed on I-70. The driver did not stop. Police chased the vehicle through multiple streets, reaching speeds over 100 mph. The vehicle exited onto Monocacy Boulevard and continued toward East Street. During the crash near S. East Street and Monocacy Boulevard, an uninvolved bystander was struck and killed. Community members later held a birthday vigil in his honor.
