On 04/11/2026, New York Police Department officers responded to reports of multiple stabbings at the 42nd Street–Grand Central subway station. A man had entered the subway system earlier in Queens and began attacking people with a machete on the platform, injuring three individuals, all elderly. Officers encountered Anthony Griffin inside the station and gave repeated commands for him to drop the weapon. He continued moving toward officers while holding the blade. An officer opened fire, striking him. He was transported to a hospital where he was pronounced dead. Three victims were hospitalized with serious injuries and survived.
