On 04/10/2026, Kern County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a reported shooting in the 500 block of South Pepper Drive. When deputies arrived, the man left the area in a vehicle. Deputies initiated a pursuit that lasted several minutes before being terminated due to unsafe driving conditions. The man continued driving and crashed on eastbound Highway 58 near Weedpatch Highway. Deputies responded to the crash location and attempted to contact him. During that contact, deputies opened fire, striking him. He died at the location. Investigators determined that a person with a gunshot wound who arrived at a hospital by private vehicle was connected to the initial shooting.
