On 04/12/2026, Douglas County deputies responded to a domestic disturbance call near Blair High Road and Potter Street after a report that a man had forced entry into an apartment. Brian Huggins attempted to enter the residence and damaged the door and windows. When deputies arrived, he shot a deputy, striking him in the arm and chest. Officers engaged him during the response and opened fire, killing him. The injured deputy was transported to a hospital and underwent surgery.
