On 04/14/2026, Omaha Police Department officers responded to a report of a woman holding a young child with a knife at a Walmart near 72nd and Pine streets. Officers located Noemi Guzman in the parking lot with a 3-year-old boy seated in a shopping cart. Police gave repeated commands for her to drop the knife. Guzman did not comply and began cutting the child. Officers opened fire, striking and killing her. The child sustained injuries to his face and hand and was transported to a hospital.
