OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :

On 04/06/2026, Tucson Police Department officers responded to a reported armed robbery at a business on North Campbell Avenue. Two teenagers entered the business, assaulted an employee, and took money and car keys before leaving in a vehicle. Officers located the vehicle near West Ajo Way, and both individuals ran into a residence in the 3700 block of South Lundy Avenue. A child inside the home was removed safely. One teenager surrendered. Joannie Jose Armenta remained inside as SWAT and negotiators attempted to get him to come out. After several hours, Armenta exited the residence and raised an object toward officers. Officers opened fire, striking him. He was transported to a hospital where he died. Investigators later reported the object was a toy gun wrapped to resemble a firearm.
