On 04/14/2026, Sacramento County Sheriff's Office deputies responded to a report of an armed carjacking. Deputies located Tyler Allen Gress and attempted to stop the vehicle. He did not stop. Police chased him onto Interstate 5. The pursuit ended near Arena Boulevard when the vehicle stopped. Gress exited the vehicle holding a gun. Deputies opened fire, striking him. He died following the shooting. Authorities reported the carjacking victim was not injured. The California Department of Justice is investigating the shooting.
